1. يا رِياح الفَجر مِن نَحو الحِمى

    هَجتِ لي لَما تَنسمتِ الطَرَب

    O morning breezes blowing from the beloved's abode

    You excited me when you blew gently

  2. كُلَّما كَفكفت دَمعي اِنسَجَما

    وَإِذا اِستنجدت بِالصَبر هَرَب

    Whenever you dry my tears they flow again

    And when I seek patience, it flees

  3. قَد أَتَتني عَن حَبيبي بِخَبَر

    وَأسرَّته لِقَلبي فَاِستَعر

    News of my beloved came to me

    And confided it to my heart, so it blazed

  4. وَإِرتَمَت أَحشايَ مِنهُ بِالشَرَر

    أَتَرى يُنصِفُني مِن ظُلما

    And my insides caught fire from its embers

    Will he do me justice for this oppression?

  5. إِذ نَأى عَني وَمِن غَيري اِقتَرَب

    وَبِنَفسي أَفتديهِ حكماً

    When he shunned me and drew near to another

    And I ransom him with my soul, as justice decrees

  6. حُكم الأَشواق بي ثُمَّ اِحتَجَب

    مَلَني العوّاد إِذ عَزَّ الدَوا

    The ruling of passions upon me, then he veiled himself

    The lover filled me when the medicine was scarce

  7. وَإِذا بِتُ كَبدي نار الجَوى

    مِن مُجيري مِن ظُلوم في الهَوى

    And my liver caught the fire of anguish

    Who will protect me from the wrongs of passion?

  8. كُلَما أَبكي لَدَيهِ اِبتَسَما

    وَإِذا يَوماً تَبسمت قطب

    Whenever I weep before him, he smiles

    And if one day I smile, he frowns

  9. أَمر العَينين أَن تَبكي دَماً

    وَرَمى بِالصَد قَلبي فَاِلتَهَب

    And commands my eyes to cry blood

    And casts coldness at my heart, so it flames

  10. كُلَّما صَدَّ تَمادى الحُب بي

    قُلت إِذ حارَبَني وَأَحربي

    Whenever he spurns me, love intensifies in me

    I said, as he fought against me and battled me

  11. هَل لِهَذا آخر يابأَبي

    أَيُّها الظَبي المذيبي سَقماً

    “Does this have an end, O father?”

    O gazelle, melting me into sickness

  12. بَينَ سَقم الجسم وَاللَحظ نَسب

    أَفلا تَرعى لِذاكَ الذِمما

    Between bodily sickness and the sickness of glance, make a connection

    Do you not have mercy for that obligation?

  13. وَهُوَ في دين الهَوى أَقوى سَبب

    يا دُجى الهَجر الَّذي أَحمى الوَهج

    While in the religion of love it is the strongest cause

    O darkness of estrangement that ignited the flame

  14. أَتَرى لي فيكَ فَجر أَو فَرَج

    لَو بَدا بَدري لَما اِحتَجت البَلج

    Do you see for me in you a dawn or relief?

    If my full moon appeared, I'd have no need for mirage

  15. مِن عَذيري مِن حَبيب صَرما

    بَعد ما واصَلَني فيهِ الوَصب

    As justification from a master who impaired me

    After he had joined me, in which harm manifested

  16. جارَ هَذا الحُب لَما حَكَما

    إِن قَلبي كُلَّما ذابَ أُحب

    This love rules whenever my heart melts

    How often I lead patience while patience is combustible

  17. كَم أَقود الصَبر وَالصَبر حرون

    كُل تَدبير مَع الحُب جُنون

    Every strategy with love is madness

    And patience with passion cannot be

  18. وَاِصطِبار مَع شَوق لا يَكون

    مَرَّ عَيشي في هَوى عَذب اللَمى

    My life passed in the sweet torment of passion

    And my livelihood from its impairment is perdition

  19. وَحَلالي مِن تَجنيهِ العَطب

    وَمَضى عُمريَ فيهِ عَدَما

    And my life in it passed fruitlessly

    Between confusion, tedium, and anger

  20. بَينَ تيهٍ وَملال وَغَضَب

    لي رَقيب مُنكر مَهما بَدا

    I have a disapproving watcher, however he appears

    And slanderers who will never tire

  21. وَوشاة لَن يَملوا أَبَدا

    وَغَيور لَيسَ يَخشى أَحَدا

    And a jealous one who fears no one

    And a blamer who rarely acts with decency

  22. وَعَذول قلَّ أَن يَحتَشِما

    لَم يَنَل مِن عَذلِهِ إِلّا التَعَب

    He obtained from his blaming only fatigue

    Whenever he accuses with blame, worry manifests

  23. كُلَّما عَرَّض بِاللَوم هُما

    عارض مِن دَمع عَيني وَاِنسَكَب

    A stream of tears from my eyes pour forth

    Alas, from the heat of passion and its bitterness

  24. آه مِن حَرّ الجَوى وَأَكبَدا

    قَد بَكاني رَحمَةً فيهِ العِدا

    His blaming me never tires of accusation

    All who blame a lover have sinned

  25. وَعَذولي لا يَملّ الفَندا

    كُلّ مَن لامَ مُحِباً أَثما

    And when love prevails, it overcomes

    How can I not love a moon when it appears radiant?

  26. وَإِذا ماغولب الحُب غَلَب

    كَيفَ لا أَهوى مَليحاً كُلَّما

    When the branch inclines gracefully at its rising

    His waist can be encircled by its knot

  27. لاحَ لِلبَدر مَحياهُ غَرب

    فَضح الغُصن اِنعِطافاً قَدهُ

    His mouth burned my heart with its coolness

    A pearl made flawless by stringing

  28. خَصرُهُ يمكن مِنهُ عَقدهُ

    ثَغرُهُ أَحرَق قَلبي بَردُهُ

    Named cool though it is affection

    From his coolness, my thirst only increases

  29. لُؤلؤٌ أَحكمهُ مِن نَظَما

    وَيُسَمى بَرداً وَهُوَ حَبب

    It is honey, wine, and tenderness

    One who tastes it will never awake

  30. مِن بَردهُ ظامياً يَزدد ظَما

    وَهُوَ شَهد وَرَحيق وَضَرب

    And musk criticizes one who knows it

    Does not the glances of his doe eyes make him cautious?

  31. لايَفيق الدَهر مَن يَرشفُهُ

    وَيَعيب المسك مَن يَعرِفُهُ

    That he watches for that facial hair

    My gaze embarrassed him, so he reddened

  32. دونَهُ مِن لَحظِهِ مُرهفَهُ

    أَفلا يَرهبهُ مِن عِلما

    In the clarity of his cheek, water and flame

    Do not ask how many my tears have poured

  33. أَنَّهُ يَرصد ذياك الشَنَب

    أَخجَلتُهُ نَظرَتي فَاِزدَحَما

    I have exposed my secret, and about it I have spoken

    I said, while passions for him have fled from me

  34. في صَفا خَديهِ ماءٌ وَلَهب

    لا تَسَل عَن أَدمُعي كَم سَفحت

    "Be generous with me for what I suffer"

    I have no comfort apart from nearness

  35. فَضحت سري وَعَنهُ أَفصحت

    قُلت وَالأَشواق بي قَد برّحت

    He said to me, "But die immersed in love for me"

    I said, "I ransom you with my soul, it is obligatory"

  36. أَرثِ لي مِمّا أُقاسي كَرَما

    لَيسَ لي فيما سِوى القُرب أَرب

    Jealousy that has exceeded all bounds

    And melted me for him like a pillar

  37. قالَ لي بَل مُت معتي مُغرَما

    قُلت أَفديك بِنَفسي قَد وَجَب

    I do not fear the harm of his refusal

    My anguish, if I die immersed in it, is the water

  38. غيرة قَد جاوزت كُل مَدى

    وَأَذابَتني عَلَيهِ كَمدا

    Between grief, illness, and distress

    That he loves another instead of me, what a disgrace

  39. لَستُ أَخشى مِن تَجنيهِ الرَدى

    جَزعي إِن مُت فيهِ الما

    How ugly are suspicions from people of doubts

    He knew my humiliation before him

  40. بَين حُزن وَسقام وَكَرب

    أَنَّهُ يَعشَقهُ غَيري وَما

    Dignity before him became humiliation to me

    I love him, even if I am disgraced before him

  41. أَقبح الصَبوة مِن أَهل الرَيب

    عَلَمتهُ ذلَتي بَينَ لَدَيهِ

    His love taught me, if it composes

    Every knot in passion is wondrous

  42. عزة قَد هَونت ذلي لَدَيهِ

    أَنا أَهواهُ وَإِن هِنت عَلَيه

    Ah, who taught man what he did not know

    Before he learned the art of etiquette?

  43. حُبُهُ عَلَمَني إِن اِنظَما

    كُل عَقد في الغَراميّ عَجَب

  44. أَي وَمَن قَد علم الإِنسان ما

    لَم يَك يَعلَمُ مِن فَنّ الأَدَب
