1. سَقى اللَه في مَصر السَعيدة مَنزِلاً

    قَضى اللَهُ فيهِ بِاجتِماع ذَوي اللُب

    God quenched in blessed Egypt a dwelling

    Wherein He decreed the gathering of kindred souls

  2. مَحل لِمَعسول السَجايا لِقاؤُهُ

    أَحب إِلى الظامي مِن الحَضر العَذب

    A place for honeyed conversation, its meeting

    Dearer to the thirsty than fresh, sweet water

  3. وَإِخوان صدق مُستَقيم وَدادهم

    وَشَرّ الاخلاء المُقوَّم بِالعَتب

    And true, upright friends whose affection is straight

    Better than the intimate who only brings blame

  4. نَعمنا بِهِ حيناً مِن الدَهر نَحتَسي

    سَلافة آداب تَجمّ عَلى الشُرب

    With them we enjoyed some days of life

    Manners refined over the tradition of drink

  5. أَرق وَأَشهى مِن تَنصل مُغرَم

    وَأَعذَب مِن عَتب الحَبيب عَلى الصَب

    More gentle and delightful than a lover's discontent

    Sweeter than a beloved's rebuke on wakefulness

  6. بِحَيث تَرانا لِلوجوه صَيارِفاً

    وَلَستَ تَرانا نَصرف الهَم لِلكسب

    Where you see us turn our faces

    But not turn our cares towards gain

  7. هُوَ الدَهر قَد يَسخو بِأَسباغ نعمة

    وَلَكنها الأَيّام تُسرع بِالسَلب

    Life may be generous with abundant bounty

    Yet days are quick to despoil

  8. وَأَبرح ما يُبلى السُرور فراق ذي

    وِداد صَحيح في التَباعُد وَالقُرب

    Never does the joy of one cease

    Whose true affection stays fast in union and separation

  9. سَلام مِن الرَحمَن يَصحب رَحمة

    عَلى كُل مَن يَرعى العُهود مِن الصَحب

    Greetings from the Compassionate accompany mercy

    On all who keep faith with companionship

  10. أَلا لا يَلُمني بَعدَكُم عِندَ غَفلة

    عَشير فَما فارقتكُم وَمَعي قَلبي

    Do not blame me, my people, if after you

    I wander, for my heart remains with you
