قَد ذِبتُ مِن أَلَم الجَوى

فَاِستَبقِ بِعضكَ يا فُؤاد

I've wasted away from the pain of longing,

So hurry, my heart, and join the rest.

وَاِعلَم بِأَنَكَ لا تَر

د إِذا فَنيت وَلا تُعاد

Know that when you're gone, you'll not

Return, once expired, to be restored.

يَخلو بِطَيف لَو بِهِ

سَمَحوا لَما سَمَحَ السُهاد

My darling's apparition, though they

Had relented, would not relent the rigors.

وَمَمنع مِما يَتيهُ

يَكاد يغضبهُ الوِداد

He who's denied what he craves

Is vexed by affection itself.

أَقسَمت لَو سَمَعَ الجَما

د حَديثُهُ رَقَص الجَماد

I swear, if the masses heard his words,

The very rocks would dance.

حَبيبهِ انزل بي جُنو

ن الحُب فَاِرتَحل الرَشاد

He said, "My love, rain down on me

Misfortunes of passion"—so goodbye, reason!

وَمِن الشَقاوَة حُب قا

سٍ لا بَرق وَلا يَكاد

How wretched to love a lightning flash

That scarcely exists before it fades.

مَولايَ برَّح بي الجَفا

وَالصَد عَني وَالبُعاد

My master, relieve me of rejection

And distance and banishment.

فَالدَمع وَردي دائِماً

وَالجَمر لِي أَبَداً مهاد

For my tears are always my wine,

And embers forever my bed.

مَن لي بِصَبر وَالنَصي

ر عَنكَ ما لا يُستَفاد

Who will grant me patience or

Dissuade me from you, to no avail?
