1. ما اِبيَضَّ وَجهُ المَرءِ في طَلَبِ العُلى

    حَتّى يُسَوَّدَ وَجهُهُ في البيدِ

    The face of man does not turn white in seeking glory

    Until it is blackened in tribulation

  2. وَصَدَقتِ إِنَّ الرِزقَ يَطلُبُ أَهلَهُ

    لَكِن بِحيلَةِ مُتعَبٍ مَكدودِ

    Indeed sustenance seeks out its people

    But through the device of an exhausted, worn out man
