  1. آنَسَني مِن بَعدِكَ الوَجدُ

    وَعَبرَةٌ تَطرُقُ أَو تَغدو

    Longing afflicts me in your absence,

    A tear drops by or dawns.

  2. وَفى البُكا بِالعَهدِ إِذ لَم يَكُن

    لِلصَبرِ ميثاقٌ وَلا عَهدُ

    Tears have fulfilled their oath, for there was

    No pact or oath for patience.

  3. نُغِّصتُ حُسنَ النَرجِسِ الغَضِّ مُذ

    بِنتَ فَطَرفي مِنهُ مُرتَدُّ

    Since the emerald narcissus cast down its eye,

    My eye has not been comforted.

  4. لَم يُجمَعا قَطُّ لِعَيني وَقَد

    يَجتَمِعُ النَرجِسُ وَالوَردُ

    Never have my eyes found peace, yet the narcissus

    And the rose come together.
