جَمَشَتني بِحاجِبٍ
وَأَشارَت بِطَرفِها
She frowned at me with her eyebrow
And gestured with a glance of her eye
فَتَأَمَّلتُ وَجهَها
فَاِتَّقَتني بِكَفِّها
So I gazed upon her face
And she chided me with her palm
لَيتَ نِصفي عَلى الفِرا
شِ لِحافٌ لِنِصفِها
If only my bed were cloven in twain
An ample cover for half of it
فَأَنالُ الَّذي أُري
دُ عَلى رَغمِ أَنفِها
Then I might attain what I desire
In spite of her spite
