1. لَها وَأَعارَني وَلَها

    وَأَبصَرَ ذِلَّتي فَزَها

    He dallied, and lent me infatuation;

    he saw my abasement and grew proud.

  2. لَهُ وَجهٌ يَعَزُّ بِهِ

    وَلي حُرَقٌ أَذَلُّ بِها

    He has a face by which he is exalted;

    I have burning pangs by which I am brought low.

  3. دَقيقُ مَحاسِنٍ وُصِلَت

    مَحاسِنُ وَجنَتَيهِ بِها

    A subtle grace, through which were joined

    the beauties of his two cheeks.

  4. أُلاحِظُ حُسنَ وَجنَتِهِ

    فَتَجرَحُني وَأَجرَحُها

    I gaze upon the beauty of his cheek,

    and it wounds me, while I wound it.
