1. مِن أَينَ لي صَبرٌ عَلى الهَجرِ

    لَو أَنَّ قَلبِيَ كانَ مِن صَخرِ

    Where could I find patience to endure abandonment,

    even if my heart were made of stone?

  2. وَيلٌ لِجِسمي مِن دَواعي الهَوى

    وَيلٌ مَعي يَدخُلُ في القَبرِ

    Woe to my body from love’s urgings—

    a woe that enters the grave with me.

  3. لَو كُنتُ أَرعى النَجمَ تَقوىً لَقَد

    أَدرَكَ طَرفي لَيلَةَ القَدرِ

    Had I watched the stars in devotion, surely

    my eyes would have attained the Night of Decree.
