My eyes weep and sorrow overtakes me
Leave me be for the time that I have left
I will make up for the days of my life
Between my misery, my tears, and my gloom
Ahmad ibn Harun you were special to me
Then my misery spread and my afflictions encompassed me
The days distressed me for you, so console me
In my disorder and protect me in my turmoil
The days distressed me for the truthful, well-mannered one
The noble darling of etiquette and morals
Unlike other friends, my companion was al-Mustafa
The finest of my companions
Shammari who assumes excellence from my ancestors
Among the most generous and youthful
When he wore the cloak of glory and sought
Praise, was any prayer left unfulfilled?
Eyes saw him as a radiant full moon
A lofty and brilliant celestial body
On his cheeks, the flowing waters of dew
Dew of life, and dew of youth
Death sent an eye toward him
That severed the strongest of ties
