The wantonness of the past has passed away,
And that passion has been extinguished and faded.
Your adored face became chaste
Like the coolness of silk on Damascene brocade.
It was the most radiant of faces, but now
It is as though about to be pelted with stones.
Can the water of sincerity remain
When you persist in turbid gatherings?
You make your living by the labor of your back
In the garb of idleness and loss.
You, more worthy than anyone, should not
Squander yourself amid writing and trade.
