كَم يَتَمادى لَيلِيَ الأَطوَلُ

كَم يَتَبارى دَمعِيَ المُسبَلُ

How long will my endless night endure?

How long will my flowing tears compete?

يا طولَ هَجرٍ مالَهُ آخِرٌ

مِنكَ لِعَتبٍ مالَهُ أَوَّلُ

O lengthy estrangement that has no end,

From your blame that has no beginning.

يا غافِلاً عَنِّيَ مالي أَرى

طَرفَكَ عَن قَتلِيَ لا يَغفَلُ

O you who are heedless of me, I see

Your eyes do not overlook killing me.

أَراكَ لا تَنفَكُّ ذا فَرعَهُ

في النَومِ مِن كَثرَةِ مَن تَقتُلُ

I see you incessantly swinging a branch

In sleep, from killing so many.
