كانَ حُلماً ما كُنتُ آمَلُ فيكُم

وَقَليلاً ما تَصدُقُ الأَحلامُ

My hope in you was nothing but a dream,

And rarely do dreams ever prove true.

بَلِّغوا ما أَقولُ مَن لا أُسَمّي

رُبَّ قَولٍ تُشفى بِهِ الأَسقامُ

Convey what I say to the one I leave unnamed,

For many a word brings healing to sickness.

قَد أَتاني عَنكَ اِنصِرافُكِ عَنّي

وَهَناتٌ كَأَنَّهُنَّ السِهامُ

News has reached me that you have turned away,

With hurtful slights that struck like arrows.

وَتَبَدَّلتُمُ سِوانا خَليلاً

وَسِواكُم عَلى الفُؤادِ حَرامُ

You have exchanged me for another lover,

While anyone but you is forbidden to my heart.
