يا عَينُ حَمدانَ مَن ذا

عَلى فُتورِكِ يَسلَم

O eye of Hamdan, who is the one

Who is safe from your languid gaze?

حَيّتُ لَمّا بَدا لي

وَمِتُّ حينَ تَكَلَّم

I came to life when he appeared to me,

And I died when he spoke.

حَتّى إِذا ما اِشتَهى أَن

يَرُدُّ روحي تَبَسَّم

Until, when he desired to

Restore my soul, he smiled.
