Pay no heed to the words of the scolding censurer,
And drink, amidst the roses, wine chilled by the north wind;
A pure, reddish-gold vintage whose aroma bestows upon you
The breath of musk blended with the scent of apples.
Until, when it streams into the depths of a flagon,
Its radiance frees you from the need for a lamp's light.
I ceased not pouring for my beloved, then kissing him,
While the night was wrapped in a cloak of dark sackcloth,
Until he began to sing, his head tilting in intoxication:
"O Monastery of Hannah, at Dhat al-Ukayrah!"
