إِذا انتَقَدَ الدينارَ شَبَّهتُ كَفَّهُ
لَدى صُفرَةِ الدينارِ في وَضَحِ الكَفِّ
When he examines the dinar, I compare his palm—
With the gold's yellow cast against the hand's clear white—
بِنَرجِسَةٍ أَضحَت وَقَد طَلَّها النَدى
شَفيقٌ عَلَيها مُجتَنيها مِنَ القَطفِ
To a narcissus at morning, dampened by the dew,
Whose gatherer is too compassionate to pluck it.
