How have you fared this morning? May you never lack a morning
Of goodness, O Muhammad, son of Quraysh.
O solace of my soul, how did you deem it right to cast me aside?
For what is this? Nay, regarding what? Or for what cause?
We are in a merchant's tavern, and God is with us,
In a state of forbearance that we have not mixed with folly.
And the wine that is brought forth is from
Tizanabadh—the ultimate summit of all life.
So come to us now and share a morning cup with us—may I not
Die before I see you as the commander of an army.
Stinginess from you, O best of the entire
Nation, has come to resemble the bounty of Ibn Hubaysh.
