O Night, may you never pass away,
And O Morning, may you never arrive.
And O Night, should you desire
A way to leave, may you never find the path.
My beloved, for what sin
Have I been afflicted with your abandonment?
By God, may I never be deprived
Of you; so do whatever you please.
And by God, I have never severed ties
With you, whether you visited or stayed far.
And I have never ceased to be a lover
To you, whether you wished it or refused.
I hoped for solace to forget you,
But how impossible is what I saw!
And how impossible is what I sought!
And how impossible is what I desired!
