I greeted the morning with a promise, and passed the night holding a promise,
From the one who visited me after avoidance and rejection,
He arrived just past noon on the morrow, faithful to his vow,
And I spent the night upon a bed, and he spent the night upon a bed,
He ceased not pouring drink for us and drinking through our night,
With eye fixed upon eye, and cheek pressed against cheek,
Until we lay, from the depth of our intoxication, as though we were
Two slain figures wrapped in sweet basil and roses.
