I have sworn this day by the tanbur,
And by the ankle-bones and backgammon,
And by the looped handles of the wine-jars,
Upon the Two Eagles and the rose,
And the hunting of the goshawk and the shaheen,
And the hounds and the cheetah,
That you have truly exhausted, O my master,
My heart with the utmost strain,
Yet I could find no escape,
From repaying you with my affection.
