بِبابِ بُنَيَّةِ الوَضّاحِ ظَبيٌ
عَلى ديباجَتَي خَدَّيهِ ماءُ
At the gate of al-Waddah’s abode stands a gazelle,
Upon the silken brocade of his cheeks lies a fluid luster,
كَماءِ الدَنِّ يَسكَرُ مَن رَآهُ
فَيَخفِتُ وَالقُلوبُ لَهُ سِباءُ
Like the liquid of the wine-cask; whoever sees him becomes intoxicated,
Falling silent, while hearts are held captive by him,
يَعذُبُ مَن يَشاءُ بِمُقلَتَيهِ
إِذا رَنَتا وَيَفعَلُ ما يَشاءُ
He torments whom he wills with his eyes,
When they gaze intently, and he does whatever he pleases.
