O you who abandon the righteous for the wicked
O you who turn the righteous into sinners,
And abandon those sleeping to become awake
And turn the slumbering into sleepless night-companions,
I said when your phantom visited me
I said when your phantom came to visit me:
Welcome to this phantom for as long as it lasts
"Welcome to this phantom as it arrived!"
My soul is ransom for your visiting phantom
My soul is a ransom for your phantom visitor;
If you had visited me awake, you would not have visited
Had you visited me while awake, it would not have visited.
O how wonderful this cheek of yours is
Oh, how lovely is this cheek of yours,
Whoever smells it bears heavy burdens
Whoever inhales its scent has committed sins.
