يا خَليلَيَّ ساعَةً لا تَريما

وَعَلى ذي صَبابَةٍ فَأَقيما

O my two companions, tarry for a while and do not depart,

But halt for the sake of one possessed by ardent love.

ما مَرَرنا بِدارِ زَينَبَ إِلّا

فَضَحَ الدَمعُ سِرَّنا المَكتوما

We never passed by the abode of Zaynab without

Tears exposing the secret we had kept concealed.

ذَكَّرتَني الهَوى وَهُنَّ رَميمٌ

كَيفَ لَو لَم يَكُنَّ صِرنَ رَميما

These ruins recalled my passion, though they are crumbled dust;

How would it be, then, had they not turned to decay?

تَتَجافى حَوادِثُ الدَهرِ عَمَّن

كانَ في جانِبِ الحُسَينِ مُقيما

The calamities of time stand aloof from the one

Who resides within the shelter of al-Husayn.

قالَ لي الناسُ إِذ هَزَزتُكَ لِلحا

جَةِ أَبشِر فَقَد هَزَزتَ كَريما

People said to me, when I shook you for my need:

"Rejoice, for you have surely shaken a noble man."

فَاِسأَلنَهُ إِذا سَأَلتَ عَظيماً

إِنَّما يَسأَلُ العَظيمُ عَظيما

So ask of him, if you are asking for something great,

For only the great ask great things of the great.
