O Fadl, you have instilled in me a lesson,

After which there shall be neither error nor oversight.

I have been cleared of that which you suspected,

So let that acquittal be a source of joy for me through you.

And accept, O Abu al-Abbas, my excuse regarding

The words of a child, the taste of which is sweet.

If your forgiveness—vast as it is—proves too narrow

To encompass me, then no forgiveness is truly wide.

You are he who has befriended generosity, such that

Nothing but benevolence serves as a pastime for his heart.

You awaken with your honor entirely abundant,

While your wealth is wrung dry by giving, emaciated and worn.
