O my brothers, this is the morning, so take the morning draught,

For the eloquent birds of the dawn have sung.

Rise and seize it, for the cup has complained to the

Pitcher regarding the length of our slumber.

Pure wine—yet when the mixture dilutes it in the

Hands of its drinkers, joy is born,

Until it reveals to you the solemn man filled with rapture,

As mirth shakes him in his very seat.

And offer it to Ahmad; you offer it to a youth

Whose beauty all praises fail to describe.

His face makes me yearn for the wine, just as

Witty tales invite you until you laugh aloud.
