ذَهَبَ المُحُّ وَأَبقى ال

دَهرُ غِرقيئاً وَقيضا

The yolk is gone, and Time has left the

membrane and the empty shell.

لَن يَعودَ العُرفُ أَو تَر

خَمَ تَحتَ الفيلِ بَيضا

Kindness shall not return until

one broods on eggs beneath an elephant.

فَلَعَلَّ اللَهَ أَن يَف

جُرَ لِلمَعروفِ حَوضا

So perhaps God might cause to burst

a basin for benevolence.
