عاذِلي فيها أَطِعني

وَأَقِلَّ الآنَ لَومي

O you who blame me for it, obey me,

And lessen now your reproach;

وَاِشرَبِ الراحَ وَدَعني

مِن صَلاةٍ كُلَّ يَومِ

Drink the wine and leave me be,

Far from the prayers of every day;

وَإِذا ما حانَ وَقتٌ

لِصَلاةٍ أَو لِصَومِ

And when the appointed time arrives

For prayer or for fasting,

فَاِرفَعِ الصَومَ بِشُربٍ

وَاِمزُجِ الخَمرَ بِنَومِ

Then dismiss the fast with drinking,

And mingle the wine with sleep;

أَبَداً ما عِشتَ خالِف

دَأبَ قَومٍ بَعدَ قَومِ

Forever, as long as you live, defy

The customs of people, age after age.
