O Reem, bring the ink and pen
O Reem, bring the inkwell and the pen,
I will write my longing for the one who wronged
That I may write my longing to the one who has been unjust.
Angry, though his approval would make me happy, even if
He is wrathful; his contentment is beyond my reach, and were he
He asked what you were angry about, he would not know
To be asked, "Why are you angry?", he would not know.
For his lover cannot detach from him
Thus his lover ceases not, on his behalf,
Among many excuses for what he did not commit
To gather excuses for offenses not committed.
I stay awake remembering him
I remain awake from the memory of him,
Until when I sleep I dream of him
Until, when I sleep, he becomes my dream.
I clung to one who came and went
I became attached to one who claimed the souls of the
Of past and gone people, not regretting
Ancients and those who remain, without a trace of regret.
If his eyes looked upon a stone
If his eye were to cast a glance upon a stone,
His indifference would make it sick
Its languor would engender sickness within it.
