1. إِذا ذَكَرَ الفِراقَ بَكى

    وَإِن غَفَلَ الرَقيبُ شَكا

    When he remembers separation, he weeps,

    And if the watcher is heedless, he complains.

  2. مِثالُكَ نُصبُ عَينَيهِ

    يَراهُ حَيثُما سَلَكا

    Your image is fixed before his eyes;

    He sees it wherever he treads.

  3. رَأى ما بي فَقالَ مَنِ ال

    لَذي بِاللَومِ حَرَّقَكا

    He saw my plight and asked, "Who is the one

    Who has burned you with such rebuke?"

  4. لِمَن ذا كُلُّهُ قُل لي

    لِأَعذُلَهُ فَقُلتُ لَكا

    "For whose sake is all this? Tell me,

    That I may censure him," and I said, "For you."

  5. فَأَعرَضَ ما يُكَلِّمُني

    كَذا المَولى إِذا مَلَكا

    Then he turned away, speaking to me no more;

    Such is the master when he holds dominion.
