ما غَضَبي مِن شَتمِ أَحبابي

أَعظَمُ مِن شَتمِهِمُ ما بي

My anger does not spring from the insults of my beloveds,

For the suffering within me is far greater than their abuse.

لَو قُستُ بِالشَمِّ بَلائي بِهِم

زادَ فَأَفنى حَسبَ حُسّابي

Were I to measure the affliction they cause against towering peaks,

It would outweigh them, confounding all calculation.

يا رَحِمَ اللَهُ الَّذي مَسَّني

مِنكِ بِأَوجاعٍ وَأَوصابِ

May God have mercy on the affliction that has touched me,

Inflicted by you in waves of pain and lingering illness.

لَمَوقِعُ الهِجرانِ بَينَ الحَشا

أَنفَذُ مِن رِشقٍ بِنُشّابِ

For the blow of abandonment deep within my soul

Is more piercing than a volley of arrows.

إِرثي وَجودي لِفَتى مُدنَفٍ

أَصبَحَ في هَمٍّ وَتَعذابِ

Have pity and show kindness to a lovesick youth,

Who has fallen into anguish and torment,

مُشتَهِراً يَنشُرُ أَسرارَهُ

في كُلِّ يَومٍ أَلفُ مُغتابِ

Exposed, with his secrets broadcast abroad

Each day by a thousand slanderers.
