Do not humble yourself before the knocking of misfortune,

But drive away your cares with wine of deep red hue.

Do you not see how the hands of the clouds have embroidered

The robes of the earth with wondrous aromatic blooms?

With lilies fresh for the plucking, and lavender,

    And violets, and red anemones,

And fresh roses that captivate you with their beauty,

    Like suns rising from the branches;

Red ones and white are gathered, and yellow,

And those painted in marvelous shades.

Like strung necklaces of rubies and pearls,

With gems of pure gold in their centers,

    And emeralds fashioned around them,

A strand shimmering by the garden's edge.

So when worries take turns assailing you, seek solace

In wine, sweet basil, and boon companions.
