إِذا أَنشَدَ داوُودُ
فَقُل أَحسَنَ بَشّارُ
When Dawud recites,
Then say, 'Bashar has excelled!'
لَهُ مِن شِعرِهِ الغَثِّ
إِذا ما شاءَ أَشعارُ
For he has, of his own feeble verse,
Poems whenever he might wish,
وَما مِنها لَهُ شَيءٌ
أَلا هَذا هُوَ العارُ
But of this, not a thing belongs to him;
Indeed, this is the disgrace.
