أَلا لا أَشتَهي الأَمطا
رَ إِلّا في الجَبابينِ
Nay, I do not desire the rains,
Except upon the desert graveyards.
أَيا مُفسِدَ دُنيايَ
بِشَيءٍ لَيسَ يُرضيني
O you who has ruined my world,
With something that brings me no pleasure.
فَما أَهواكَ في الغِبِّ
وَما أَهواكَ في الحينِ
I desire you not in the aftermath,
Nor do I desire you in the moment.
لَقَد صِرتَ لِمَن أَهوا
هُ عُذراً لَيسَ بِالدونِ
For you have become, to the one I love,
An excuse that is far from trivial.
يَقولُ الآنَ لا أَقدِ
رُ أَن أَخرُجَ في الطينِ
Saying now: 'I am unable
To venture out amidst the mud.'
