Hamdan, why is it that you rage
At me, without a cause for anger?
For I have sworn a solemn oath,
A righteous vow, not to be belied,
That I shall not bed a beardless lad,
Soft of fingertips, dyed with henna.
So trust in this pledge from me,
O son of noble, compounded stock.
For the sea has become my sole affair,
And the sea is more desirable and sweet.
O branch of the tribe of Layth bin Bakr,
Possessors of the refined multitude,
People of generosity and glory,
And noble feats—now turn it over.
