My eyes told of that which I kept hidden
My glance gave news of that which I conceal,
And chide what you revealed in them
Woe unto you! How revealing is the eye!
Eyes cannot conceal a lover's passion
The gaze cannot suppress a lover's passion,
Rather they divulge it in tears
But divulges it through the shedding tear.
So much so that in all I see
Until my very eye, in viewing you,
I know more than my soul what I conceal
Knows more than my own soul of what I hide.
And that is because I and fate fell
And this is so—for destiny is struck—
By its hands my soul gathered its shroud
By its own hand, my soul has wrought my end.
