When our two phantoms meet within our sleep,

Our union returns to us just as it used to be.

O delight of my eyes, what is the matter with us,

That we suffer misery, while our specters find delight?

If you had wished—since you were kind to me in slumber—

You would have completed your kindness while awake.

O two lovers who reconciled within the dream,

And woke to morning, both filled with anger.

Such is the way of dreams, treacherous by nature,

Though perhaps, at times, they do come true.
