I secluded myself with the wine, whispering my secrets to it,
Taking from it and offering to it in turn.
I made it my boon companion when I found no kindred spirit
Whom I would be pleased to have share it with me.
I drank it pure, unmixed and straight,
So I became both its cupbearer and its imbiber.
The eye has never beheld a sight
That approaches it in beauty and grace.
Ever fearful of the envious eye when it appeared,
I breathed into my cup, casting spells to protect it.
