أَعَدَّ الناسُ لِلعيدِ
مِنَ اللَذّاتِ أَلوانا
The people prepared for the festival
Pleasures of various hues;
وَأَعدَدتُ مَعَ الدَمعِ
لَهُ راحاً وَرَيحانا
But I prepared, amidst my tears,
Wine and fragrant basil for it.
فَيا مَن تَسمَعُ الدُنيا
إِذا ما كانَ غَضبانا
O you to whom the world attends
Whenever he turns to wrath,
دَعِ الهَجرَ الَّذي كانَ
لَنا مِنكَ كَما كانا
Cast off the estrangement that stood
Between us, just as it was.
فَما أَحسَنَ بِالمَعشو
قِ أَن يَهجُرَ أَحيانا
For how beautiful it is for the beloved
To turn away at times,
إِذا لَم يَكُنِ المَعشو
قُ لِلعاشِقِ خَوّانا
So long as the beloved is not
A traitor to the one who loves.
