I shall commit whatever sin is within my grasp,
And amuse myself with beardless youths and wine,
And seek the fulfillment of my desire in secret,
From full-breasted maidens and the young boy.
I deem the bedding of elders a right upon me,
That the youths of the world may know my inner nature,
And fairer than the love of hawk and falcon,
Or the sport of cockfighting and keeping pigeons,
And better than the breath of war and the thrust of spears,
And steadfastness when the sharp sword is drawn,
Is the passion for a girl hoarded in a churl's house,
And the ravishing of his daughters under the darkness.
I do not abandon my quarry if I am startled,
Out of reverence for a father whose shame I might regard,
Nor for the Prince's tyranny, nor a judge's ban,
Nor for the words of the Muezzin or the Imam.
Shall I disobey my Creator and yet fear my neighbor,
And conceal the secret of my infatuated heart?
So say to those who abstain: "Have you found
Any cause to blame us in our perdition?"
For more delicious to me than the riding of steeds,
Is the riding of shy maidens amidst the tents.
