    لكَ في العلم خوَل

    We are all, O Ibn Hudayj,

    Your servants in the realm of knowledge;

    Yet medicine is more befitting

    Of you than any other deed.

    وبصيرٌ وبالعِلَل

    You are a philosopher therein,

    And discerning of all maladies;

    So why is the penis light,

    But when it rises, it turns heavy?

    And when it discharges what is within,

    It dangles down and withers?

    Is this a new occurrence in it,

    Or an ancient trait that remains?

    And why is the thrusting delightful

    During the repetition of the act,

    But when the pleasure is consummated,

    The penis bows its head and tires?
