I was left to face adversity, give me more shackles
May I be your ransom from death; increase my chains,
And lash me with a whip or pillar
And double the lash or the rod against me.
And station guards outside my door
Assign over me, and at the doors confining me,
Appointing over me a stubborn devil
A rebellious demon from among the guards.
And spare my ears the sound of a heavy impurity
But spare my hearing from the voice of that wretch,
Whose person is called Sa'eed
Of oppressive presence, the one called Sa'id.
For he has left the iron upon me as but a feather
For he has rendered the iron upon me light as feathers,
And his hatred has weighed down my heart like iron
While loathing him has weighed down my heart like iron.
