O you whose glance is enchantment,

And whose smile is a string of pearls,

I summoned my courage and revealed my heart to you

When my patience was finally overcome.

And how fitting it is, for one such as you,

That the veil of secrecy be torn away.

If people were to reproach me for this,

In your face lies my clear excuse.

Spare me from your endless promises,

Since your "hour" spans an eternity.

And from your saying, "I will come to you

When the noon prayer has been prayed."

No, by God, you shall not depart

Until this matter is firmly settled:

    Either estrangement and blame,

    Or loving union and gratitude.
