تَناوَمتُ جُهدي فَلَم أَرقُدِ
وَنامَ الخَلِيُّ وَلَم يَسهَدِ
I strove to feign sleep, yet I could not slumber,
While the carefree one slept, untouched by wakefulness.
أُقَلِّبُ طَرفاً كَليلَ اللِحاظِ
وَإِن قَرَّ عَن جَسَدٍ مُقصَدِ
I turn about a gaze weary in its glancing,
Though it settles in a body stricken with pain.
وَأَنهَضُ في طَرَباتٍ تَهيجُ
وَأُلزِمُ طَوراً فُؤادي يَدي
I rise amidst surging emotions that rage within,
And at times, I press my hand against my heart.
