The gardens I desired have lost their appeal,
Jinan renounced the love for which my soul toward her yearned,
Though once my soul yearned for them and their feel.
So I renounced the world, and to the grave my longing turned.
So now I spurn this world and all its gloss,
I hid myself so that her eye would not perceive me, and stilled my voice,
My end is coming soon, that I can tell.
Lest the sound of my stirring should alarm that lovely face.
I shut my eyes lest hers upon me dwell,
And hush my voice, her lovely face to bless.
Lest my sad moans should that fair cheek distress.
