Pray with fresh buttermilk,
Distract yourself with beauties fair and bright,
And soothing basil,
With singing-girls and vintage wine flowing;
Let no one deter you,
Let no scolding critic turn you from your path,
It shouts your intoxication,
He stays sober while you are deep in cups.
Worry has no remedy,
For there is no medicine to cure our grief,
Like relaxation and morning,
Like the evening draught and the morning drink.
By my life, nothing cures,
By my life! One cannot heal the heavy heart,
Worry but cold water.
With nothing more than water, pure and simple.
