O you who describe the youths in your poetry
O you who describes young men in his verse,
You and my Lord are the best of them
You, by my Lord, are the foremost among them.
You described fifty, singling them out
You have described fifty and singled them out,
While you, you are the playful gazelle
Yet you yourself are the beguiling gazelle.
Leave them be, or describing them
Leave them aside, and cease describing them,
You and my Lord are the most beautiful
For you, by my Lord, are more beautiful than they.
O cheek dimple that makes its like deficient
O goose whose equal is rarely found,
Though the softest flesh follows it
Followed by the most bountiful flesh,
I have spoken, though the difficulty is endless
I have spoken, and the consequences are endless,
Be gentle, my love, you are impatient
Be gentle, my love; you are too hasty.
