إِنَّ البَلِيَّةَ سَدَّت
عَلَيَّ طُرقَ المَذاهِب
Troubles have blocked for me the ways of doctrine
Verily, this affliction has barred
When the eye of my heart saw his
Every path of escape from me,
إِذ أَبصَرَت عَينُ قَلبي
لِحَينِهِ المُتَقارِب
Beautiful face drawing near.
When the eye of my heart beheld—
A gazelle inclining, with each part,
To its own approaching doom—
ظَبياً يَميلُ التَصابي
عَلَيهِ مِن كُلِّ جانِب
Toward him, from every side.
A gazelle toward whom desire sways
For him dawns of beauty that have
From every single side;
لَهُ مَشارِقُ حُسنٍ
لَيسَت لَهُنَّ مَغارِب
No setting.
He possesses sunrises of beauty
That never know a setting.
