With a moist, tender glance,
And oh, what a charmer with a languid gaze,
She laughs more sweetly than pure wine.
Who smiles revealing teeth both sweet and glistening,
I was alone with her in a gathering
I secluded myself with him in a gathering where
Where none were with us but God.
There was no third amongst us but the Lord.
She said, her palm in my palm,
He spoke to me, while my hand lay in his,
After withdrawing from me in displeasure:
After his feigned tyranny and reproach:
"Do you love me?" I answered her:
"Do you love me?" I said, answering him,
"More than you could wish for in love."
"Yes, and beyond whatever love you might hope for."
She said, "Then pine away." I said, "My lady,
He said, "Are you captivated?" I said, "O my master,
What is there in you that would not make one pine?"
And is there anything about you that does not captivate?"
She said, "Fear God, and leave this passion."
He said, "Fear God and abandon this passion,"
I said, "If only my heart would obey me."
I replied, "If only my heart would obey me."
