With Your pardon, nay, with Your generosity I have been sheltered,
In your pardon, nay, in your bounty I sought refuge—no, rather...
Nay, with Your grace, O Commander of the Faithful.
In your boundless grace, O Commander of the Faithful.
So pardon must not be difficult for me,
Let not a pardon be deemed impossible for me to obtain,
For You have encompassed all the worlds with it.
A mercy with which you encompass all the worlds.
For I have not betrayed You behind Your back,
For truly, I have never betrayed you in secret,
Nor have I resolved within myself to betray.
Nor did I even whisper treason to my own soul.
May Allah bless You to be honor for Islam,
God molded you to be Islam’s crowning glory,
And a fortress protecting its eggs, fortified.
And an impregnable fortress guarding its sacred core.
You have terrified the people of polytheism until
You have struck terror into the hearts of the idolaters,
You left them, not murmuring in complaint.
Leaving them silenced, unable to utter a complaint.
You visit them yourself every year,
You pay them a visit in person each passing year,
The visit of one loyal to the severed.
Like one seeking connection with those who severed ties.
And if You wished, You could be content with bliss,
Had you wished, you could have remained content in luxury,
While others endured the bitter ordeal apart from You.
Leaving others to endure the hardship in your stead.
So intercede with Your beautiful face for a captive
So let the radiance of your face intercede for a captive,
Who, loving You, professes belief in the Merciful.
Whose love for you is the faith he professes to the Merciful.
When abasement befalls the house of a people,
If ever humiliation descends upon a people's abode,
A neighbor like You has no choice but to be abased.
No neighbor of one such as you shall ever face disgrace.
