Fasting forbade drink
Fasting has forbidden the wine,
And diminished frivolity
And withheld amusement, so it vanished away.
And we remain in the prisons of fasting
And we remained in the prisons of the
Captives to anxiety
Fast, captives to distress.
Except that we will secretly
Yet we shall cunningly evade,
Drink at night with those who cannot be denied
Therein, Him who is not easily evaded.
We will drink from dusk until dawn
We drink the night away until the dawn,
Both small and great
Both the young ones and the old.
And we will sing what we desire
And we sing whatever we desire
Of poetry aloud
Of poetry, openly and aloud.
Serve me drink until you see me
Pour me drink until you see me
Mistake the rooster for a donkey
Mistaking the rooster for a donkey.
