Do not lean towards the dwellings
Do not turn aside for the traces of dwellings,
Of Darisat or Dhi Naqah or Bugaidah
Effaced at Dhu al-Naqa or Bughayda,
We have chanted of them for a long time
For we dwelled within them a long age of time,
And gained from them diversion and game
And found therein both amusement and game.
O daughter of the tribe, do not be suspicious
O daughter of the tribe, be not startled by doubt,
And resign to the free-moving sand grouse
And live safe, soft-fingered, in delicate ease.
Do not worry for me the passing of nights
Do not fear for my sake the changes of nights,
Between them and me are distances
For indeed, between me and them stands ‘Ubayd,
Between them and me is a proud father
And indeed, between me and them is Abu ‘Amr,
Who sufficed me with honor, refuge, and protection
Who sufficed me as glory, as refuge and peak.
